When the holidays turn into a nightmare. While on vacation in Mexico to celebrate the fortieth birthday of his wife, Alejandra Silva, Richard Gere suffered a violent fit of coughing this Saturday, February 18. A health problem that forced the 73-year-old comedian to go urgently to the hospital in Nuevo Vallarta.
Quickly taken care of, the actor of Pretty Woman underwent a series of examinations which revealed that he suffered from pneumonia, a respiratory infection which can be dangerous, in particular because of his age. But after a night under observation, Richard Gere was finally able to leave the health facility to be reunited with his wife and children.
Alejandra Silva: “The worst is over”
The day after this big scare, Alejandra Silva still wanted to give reassuring news from her husband. “I woke up this morning and saw the news and all your kind concerned messages. He’s recovering, he already feels much better today!”, wrote the businesswoman in the caption of a shot where we see the couple from behind, each holding hands with their four-year-old son, Alexander. Richard Gere’s wife also clarified that “the worst is over”, and took the opportunity to thank the fans for their many messages of support. The little family will now be able to fully enjoy the end of their vacation under the Mexican sun.
After formalizing their relationship in the year 2015, Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva secretly got married in May 2018. A few months later, in February 2019, the couple welcomed their first child, Alexander. In April 2020, the pretty blonde gave birth to another baby boy, allowing Richard Gere to become a father for the third time, at the age of 70.
