Renée Zellweger would she take a liking to biopics? After Judy, in 2019, for which she received the Oscar for best actress following her bluffing interpretation of Judy Garland, the actress does it again with the series The thing about Pam, which adapts the story of Pam Hupp, the 62-year-old killer incarcerated for the murder of Louis Gumpenberger and accused of killing her friend, Besty Faria. To look like the character she embodies, Renée Zellweger must have recourse to certain artifices, especially with regard to her silhouette. This is why the actress is dressed in a “magnifying suit” which considerably changes her size. This is a fairly common use in American cinema, – Courteney Cox in Friends, Gwyneth Paltrow in Extra-Large Love, Eddie Murphy in Nutty Professor …. – but it is nevertheless debated. Indeed, the fact that the roles often fall to thin people despite their not resembling their character, or the fact that the fat body can be perceived as a disguise annoy many activists who again and again deplore the lack of diversity in Hollywood and the ruthless reign of beauty dictates. A controversy that does not seem to disrupt the filming of The thing about Pam.
