Princess Charlotte’s next return to school will not be like the others. The Sunday Times reports that one of his godfathers, Thomas van Straubenzee, who is also one of Prince William’s closest friends, on July 24 married Lucy Lanigan-O’Keeffe, a teacher at the Thomas’s Battersea school where the Cambridge children are educated. A funny anecdote, and an amazing wedding, where the daughter of Kate Middleton and Prince William had to play the role of bridesmaid.
Scheduled for last April, the wedding was finally held during the summer because of the coronavirus pandemic, in front of a small number of guests, among whom were neither the Duke and Duchess Cambridge, nor their children. If Princess Charlotte will not be able to boast of having been a bridesmaid at the wedding of her godfather and her mistress, she will nevertheless be able to say later that she has met the first child of the couple, since Lucy Lanigan-O ‘Keeffe is pregnant. A union which according to the Sunday Times, would have been encouraged by Prince William and Kate Middleton, at the origin of the meeting of the couple.
A godfather close to the royal family for many years
While waiting to be able to report this news at the start of the school year to her friends, Princess Charlotte is enjoying a vacation with her parents and her brothers George and Louis in the Isles of Scilly. And her popularity rating may well do a good job when she unveils the summer gossip at school. A lifelong friend of Prince William, Thomas van Straubenzee obtained his place very early on in the entourage of the royal family, since his uncle, William van Straubenzee, was a close friend of Lady Diana. And if he was lucky enough to be named godfather of one of the children of the British crown, he is not the only one in his family. Indeed, his little brother Charlie, for his part, is a close friend of Prince Harry, and was appointed godfather of the latter’s son, Archie.
