For years, we have all known Prince William with his clean-shaven look. His little brother, Prince Harry, 37, meanwhile, is a fan of the bushy beard. The Sun recalls that the Duke of Cambridge, 39, had already grown his beard once. The eldest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was simply very handsome with his bearded look. Photos of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge showing him with a bushy beard and mustache date from 2008. “He had let them grow out just before he started his pilot training in the Royal Air Force, during a ten year drill days in Barbados with the Navy’s Special Boat Service,” says The Sun.

Kate Middleton’s husband, 40, wouldn’t sport this bearded look for aesthetic purposes. Prince William had grown out his beard and mustache to try and “disguise his identity while on mission”, according to the Telegraph at the time. In addition, Prince William, 39, is not the only one to have let his beard grow as part of a mission. Her father, Prince Charles, 73, had also already sported this look in 1975, recalls The Sun. Prince Charles was then conducting naval exercises in Alaska.

Fans especially loved the old photos of the father of Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3. Some fans have gone so far as to compare him with his great-grandfather, King George V, according to The Sun. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, had not been able to keep his beard very long since he had to get rid of it. Beard was simply not allowed in the Air Force.
