The questions about the royal family of the United Kingdom are numerous with millions of worshipers scrutinizing their every move from all over the world. This is one of the reasons why they notably noticed a rather strange detail in Prince William: the absence of a wedding ring on his finger. It has been more than ten years since Prince William and Kate Middleton got married, and if the Duchess of Cambridge wears a wedding ring fitted to her engagement ring, the same cannot be said for her husband. Like many people, Paris Match asked the question before answering it quickly and efficiently: it is simply a personal choice on the part of Prince William.
As reported by our colleagues, his decision not to wear a wedding ring had been announced by the palace in order to avoid controversy, and this already in 2011 just before his marriage. According to the palace press release unveiled at the time, it had been specified that Prince William “would not wear a wedding ring”. No further explanation was provided at the time and the ten years since then have not provided any new details either. Paris Match points out, however, that Prince William makes a choice here that recalls that of his grandfather, Prince Philip, who did not wear a wedding ring either. This choice also marks a new difference between Princes William and Harry, since Harry, for his part, has always worn a wedding ring.
Prince Harry as opposed to Prince William
Since his marriage to Meghan Markle in 2018, Prince Harry has always been seen wearing a silver or white gold wedding ring on his left ring finger. A very traditional choice which denotes not only that of his older brother, but also that of his father, Prince Charles. Indeed, the latter has only very rarely worn his wedding ring and the only ring that invariably remains on his little finger is his signet ring, which he has had for more than 40 years. What proves that even within the royal family, traditions are different for everyone and each husband has his way of wearing – or not – his jewelry.
