Affected by the political crisis in Afghanistan, and unlike Barack Obama who would have preferred to remain silent, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry relayed a strong message on the site of their Archewell foundation, this Tuesday, August 17. “While we feel pain because of the situation in Afghanistan, we remain speechless,” wrote the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “We are heartbroken.” The couple went on to appeal for solidarity, encouraging their fans to support “a number of organizations doing essential work.”
But bad tongues are never far away. Indeed, this Tuesday, August 17, the British tabloid The Sun revealed that many personalities have tackled Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following this statement. “Who do they think they are?” Vociferated biographer Angela Levin. “It’s like we’re little kids and they’re telling us what to do. It’s meaningless,” she added before lamenting a “condescending” message. A Talk Radio presenter even broke out with ironic comments. “Thank goodness [they] talked about the terrible state of the world, so now we all know what we’re supposed to feel and say and do.” Some criticized them for not mentioning President Joe Biden in their press release. Another detractor has been heard on the Web … and he is no stranger to Meghan Markle.
What other known detractor of Meghan Markle has stepped up to the plate?
Piers Morgan said so. “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are breaking the silence on Afghanistan to say that they are ‘speechless’,” he said. And to conclude: “If only they were.” The British presenter is known for his anti-Meghan Markle stance, with whom he was however friends before she met Prince Harry. When the couple confided in Oprah Winfrey, the journalist had sharply attacked the ex-actress … to the point of being fired from the Good Morning Britain show.
