One more controversy to add to Prince Andrew’s counter. In 2018, there were not one but two royal weddings which took place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor: that of Meghan and Harry, in May, and that of Princess Eugenie, daughter of Prince Andrew, five months later.
Interviewed at This Morning the day before his daughter’s wedding, Prince Andrew commented or rather compared the two marriages of the royal family. Years later, these comments have resurfaced and, more than anything, are controversial.
“So it looks like a competition for him”
Prince Andrew had indeed said of his daughter’s wedding: “It will not be the same as the previous one which took place in May. It is not a public wedding, it is supposed to be a family wedding. ” before adding: “There will be a little more people than most people. There are a little more than Harry had, but that’s just the nature of Eugenie and Jack: they have so many friends that they need a church that size to fit.” Recall that Meghan and Harry counted 600 guests at their wedding, unlike Princess Eugenie who counted 850.
These remarks were thus perceived as a sign of misplaced competition, in particular on Twitter, where comments flared up: “So this looks like a competition for him.” or “Um! So Harry doesn’t have that many friends.”
These statements, deemed to be limited by Prince Andrew, are thus added to many other controversies about him.
