This is not news for anyone, the British royal family always respects traditions. And among famous traditions, on every birthday of a senior member, the bells of Westminster Abbey ring. But then a question arises in view of the particular context that reigns at the moment: will the bells ring to celebrate Prince Andrew’s birthday? The son of Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate his 61st birthday on February 19 in 2021. The same question arose for Meghan Markle last July, she who stepped back with Prince Harry from royalty to beginning of the year.
According to information from the Mirror, dated August 20, Prince Andrew will be treated like any other member of the British royal family, on his next birthday. The abbey has announced that it will mark this day, February 19, by ringing its bells at 1 p.m. sharp, as tradition dictates. Just like The Duke of York, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla Barker Bowles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Prince William and Kate Middleton as well as their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are entitled to the same honor.
A serious doubt that hovered …
It must be said that one would have expected that the bells would not ring for Prince Andrew. And for good reason, the son of the Queen of England and Prince Philip has been in turmoil in recent months, because of the Jeffrey Epstein affair. After being accused of sexual assault, several times in 2019, the father of Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice tried to defend himself during an interview with the BBC; interview that did not go as he would have hoped. As a result of his disastrous confidences, Prince Andrew was forced to step down from his official duties within the British Crown. As the Mirror reports, most of the celebrations in honor of the Duke of York had been canceled this year, due to the scandal he is embroiled in.
