Targeted by a complaint from Virginia Giuffre, a 38-year-old American who accuses him of having raped her 3 times when she was a minor, the Duke of York has been in turmoil for several months. After giving a hard time to the lawyers of his accuser by delaying to cooperate, he now finds himself facing the decision of Judge Kaplan, expected this Tuesday, January 4. The expert must decide whether or not to appeal to a trial with regard to Prince Andrew. Either he decides to drop the charges against the queen’s son, or he chooses to drag the latter to the benches of the court, for a trial which could last for years. A situation that the defense lawyers try to avoid at all costs and which could prove to be nightmarish for Prince Andrew.
Prince Andrew, towards “a form of internal exile”?
According to a Sunday Times article published on January 2, several members of royalty would like to strip the prince of his title of Duke of York. A distinction previously held by Queen Elizabeth’s father, King George VI, and which the latter had bestowed on “his favorite son”. Several figures of the monarchy are also said to have the objective of making Prince Andrew renounce several of his commitments. “He could not go abroad because of the risk of extradition so it would take some form of internal exile,” one of them told The Sunday Times. The comments were denied by Buckingham Palace, with Crown spokespersons citing “baseless speculation and comments”. To be continued …
