Diagnosed with terminal cancer, Amie Walton fought courageously against the disease. The 30-year-old Briton was being treated at Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham when another tragedy struck her family. Her partner, Chris Mills, died alongside her from a stomach ulcer. He left in his sleep at the age of 42. Four weeks later, in July 2022, the Englishwoman also lost her life. Orphaned, their children Harry, 8, and Mia, 6, were entrusted to Tracey, their maternal grandmother. Even today, this tragedy remains “incomprehensible” for their loved ones.
“We were all busy helping Amie through her illness and preparing for what lay ahead. We were shocked by the unexpected passing of Chris,” Tracey told BirminghamLive. The funeral of the father of the family took place on August 8. That of the mother was held on September 12. More united than ever, the community has united to raise money. Bal Singh, a neighborhood merchant, notably created a fundraising page and organized a raffle to help the couple’s children. At the time of writing, £49,766 has been raised, or around €58,000.
“Losing both parents is more than devastating”
“Harry and Mia hold a special place in our hearts. Losing a parent at such a young age is painful, but losing both parents is beyond devastating,” Bel Singh said. For her part, Tracey was very moved by this lovely solidarity: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.” The maternal grandmother also assured that she intended to honor her daughter and her son-in-law by taking care of their little ones: “We will continue to live by keeping them in our hearts. We will do our best to raise their children. children as best we can.”
