Even with a 2021 edition marked by the coronavirus pandemic and the absence of spectators, the Olympic Games were not stingy in emotions and in beautiful stories that will be remembered. Among the latter, that of Hansle Parchment is undoubtedly one of the most incredible. A 31-year-old Jamaican runner specializing in the 110-meter hurdles, he won the bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012. While he was not a favorite, he finally won the gold medal at these Olympic Games. Tokyo, but he might not have participated at all without the help of a volunteer.

Hansle Parchment tells a video on Instagram that on the day of the final, he took the wrong bus but did not realize straight away that he was going in the wrong direction. He couldn’t take the bus back the other way because he wouldn’t have arrived in time for the pre-race warm-up. He then opted for another solution: “I saw this volunteer and I had to beg her, because she didn’t have the power to do much. She finally gave me money. to take a taxi. That’s how I got there in time for the warm-up and the competition. ”

Hansle Parchment has found his benefactress

The story could have ended there, but Hansle wanted to find the one who had saved him. So he took the same bus back to show Trijana, the young volunteer in question, the gold medal she had helped him win. To Trijana’s surprise, Hansle told her the whole story, before reimbursing her what she had paid for the taxi and giving her a Jamaica jersey. He said in the caption of this video: “A little reminder to always be grateful. The Japanese are really the nicest. Thanks to my friend Trijana!”. The Jamaican Ministry of Tourism has officially invited Trijana to visit the country for her service to Hansle Parchment.
