It is the sports drama of the moment. Arrived this Wednesday, January 5 at Melbourne airport with the aim of playing the Australian Open, the world number one, Novak Djokovic, will certainly have to leave the country. The reason ? Unvaccinated, the Serbian tennis champion was provided with a medical exemption which should allow him to set foot on Australian soil despite his refusal of the vaccination. If everything appeared to be in order, his team accidentally filled out the wrong form when applying for the visa.
Since then, Novak Djokovic has first been placed in solitary confinement in a room at Melbourne airport, along with two police officers. His lawyers have filed a federal injunction to appeal the decision of the Australian authorities, who asked him this Thursday, January 6 to leave the country immediately. “Foreign nationals who do not have a valid visa or whose visa has been canceled will be detained and deported from Australia,” said Australian customs.
