The Duke of Sussex explains how his father, King Charles III of England, claimed he couldn’t fund one more person.

Prince Harry indulges in more unprecedented and shattering revelations than each other. Without forgetting the amusing confessions on certain episodes of his youth. His memoirs, The Substitute, released on January 10, 2023, tackle the thorny subject of King Charles III’s relationship with Meghan Markle. In his book, the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex recounts the time his father told him he couldn’t afford one more person. Charles III of England, 74, spoke about Meghan Markle, the former Suits actress, who was about to join the royal family.

Prince Harry claims his father, King Charles III, even told him why he couldn’t fund one more person. “I can’t fund an extra person. I’m already obligated to fund your brother and Catherine,” King Charles told his youngest son, Prince Harry. Which offended Prince William’s brother who wondered how much he and his future wife Meghan Markle would cost the Firm. “How much could it cost to house and feed Meg and me,” he wondered from his book Spare.

Prince Harry: the Duke of Sussex reveals that Charles III was afraid of Meghan

According to the Duke of Sussex, “it was not out of generosity” that King Charles III financially supported members of the royal family. “It was his job, that was the market,” explains Prince William’s brother. Prince Harry has compared royalty to a “golden cage” where all have been forced to “live permanently bound hand and foot”. In return for their service to the monarch, “the cage keepers” feed and house them. Prince Harry then confirmed that money was not the real concern. His father, King Charles III of England, is said to have been afraid “that someone would arise out of the blue, dominate the monarchy and draw the limelight to themselves, that a brilliant person would overshadow them and their to Camilla”.
