The revelations never stop raining. This Sunday, March 7, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared opposite Oprah Winfrey in an event interview broadcast on the American channel CBS. For two hours, the couple from Sussex discussed their departure from the United Kingdom and the ordeal they went through following their official marriage, on May 19, 2018. Saddened, Prince Harry notably spoke of his shackled relationship with his father, Prince Charles, and his brother, Prince William. He revealed that he had been “completely financially abandoned” by the Prince of Wales, and was only able to leave the UK with money bequeathed by his mother, Lady Di.
“I felt his presence during this whole procedure. (…) We live thanks to the money my mother left me. Without that, we could not have left”, confided the duke on CBS . “So, come to think of it, it’s like she sensed it.” He added that he said the Princess of Wales would have been “angry” and “very sad” to see her family being torn apart in this way. “All she always wanted is to be happy,” he said in front of Oprah Winfrey.
Financial independence for Harry and Meghan
Also according to the Duke of Sussex, the royal family would have justified its decision to cut him off by the presence of his wife Meghan Markle, whom the Crown allegedly would not have the means to maintain. “Some have suggested that Meghan should continue her acting career because there was not enough money to maintain her,” revealed the 36-year-old prince. Since leaving the UK and breaking up with the royal family, Harry and Meghan have definitely gained financial independence. They notably signed contracts with the greats of American entertainment, in particular Spotify and Netflix, for which they will produce podcats, films, series and documentaries.
