Royal expert Andrew Morton returns to this gesture which, according to him, is a sign of real acceptance. A few days after her wedding, Meghan attended a garden party. It was the party organized to celebrate the 70th birthday of Prince Charles. “Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, visibly held the hand of the new Duchess of Sussex during a royal engagement a few days after the wedding” affirms the expert. For him, this gesture is a sign of sincere affection for the new Duchess of Sussex.
It was the Duchess of Cornwall who grabbed Meghan’s hand towards the end of the celebration on May 22, 2018. It was the sign that the Royal Family have accepted Harry’s wife. According to Andrew Morton, it was this wordless but very eloquent gesture that indicated to the world that Meghan is finally one of them. The author of the updated biography, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess even claims acceptance came so quickly. In this regard, he declares: “this royal gesture was a sign of the speed with which the American actor had been accepted and treated with genuine affection by the royal family”.
Camilla Parker Bowles was not accepted easily
Thanks to her affectionate gesture, Prince Charles’ wife was able to mark Meghan’s real debut in the royal family. Yet for herself, the situation has not always been easy since her marriage. Since 2005, the Duchess of Cornwall has not yet really been accepted by the royal family. According to Mr Morton, “the Duchess of Cornwall has been the subject of debate since her marriage to Prince Charles in 2005”.
Note also that, despite the fact that her husband Prince Charles will become king, the status of Camilla Parker Bowles is not yet clear. As the king’s wife, she must have the status of queen consort according to some. Others believe that out of respect for Lady Di, she should only have the status of princess consort. On the other hand, you have to take into account that a status of queen consort is only obtained with the approval of William and Harry.
