Meghan Markle is blooming again. Freed from her commitments she had to keep with the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex now does what she wants. And that without fear of being judged. After having founded a foundation with Harry, the latter unveiled his first book intended for young children. The book, called The Bench, highlights the special relationship a father can have with his child.
Much to Meghan Markle’s surprise, her book quickly found its way to the top of sales. She had announced the news herself, Thursday, June 16, on Archewell. “I am delighted to see that these universal themes of love, representation and inclusion resonate in communities around the world,” she proudly wrote. Following this unexpected success, Kate Middleton’s sister-in-law gave an interview to NPR Weekend Edition, unveiled on Sunday, June 20. In it – recorded a few days before Lilibet Diana’s birth – she explains how this project came about.
Meghan Markle: how did she get the idea to write The Bench?
On the occasion of Harry’s first Father’s Day, in 2019, Meghan Markle had bet on a poem. It was thanks to him that the idea of writing was born. But that year, she also offered him a bench. “Like many, I asked myself, ‘What the hell am I going to get him?’ Then I thought to myself that I just wanted something sentimental, a place that could be their home base. ” On the bench in question, Meghan Markle had a few lines of the poem in question engraved: “Here is your bench. Where life will begin, for you and your son. Our baby, our family”.
Then the Duchess explained that she wrote the story just by observing Harry and Archie. The pandemic has allowed them to spend more time together. “It was times like that, looking at them from the window and seeing Harry rocking Archie to sleep, carrying him. You know… These lived experiences, from my observation, are the things that I infused with him. in this poem. ” Obviously, Meghan Markle is a conquered wife and mother.
