The British discovered, this Wednesday, June 23, the annual accounts of the royal family. A financial report in which we discover in particular that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid a very large sum of money to the royal family, last September. This sum, which amounts to $ 3.3 million, is not, however, a gift. It is, in reality, the amount of the rent of Frogmore Cottage, this royal residence which they lived before their departure for the United States. Even though they now live in Los Angeles, Archie and Lilibet’s parents remain linked to this house until March 2022.
This $ 3.3 million was also used to pay for repairs and renovations to Frogmore Cottage. “This payment covers all of their current obligations (…) The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a substantial contribution to the Sovereign Grant which covered the costs of renovating Frogmore Cottage”, confirmed Sir Michael Stevens, Chief Financial Officer royal, this Wednesday, June 22, during the unveiling of the annual accounts of the family.
Harry and Meghan: a very nice gesture for a royal family diminished by the Covid-19
During this meeting with British journalists, Sir Michael Stevens also clarified that this payment of 3.3 million dollars from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has been of great help to the royal family. Indeed, the latter was strongly impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. “It should also be remembered also that this payment came this year at a time when our additional income has decreased considerably. This sum has helped offset the decline we have had,” added the royal finance chief. So the royal family says thank you to Meghan and Harry!
