Two months have passed since the explosive interview with the Sussex couple. But the pill still does not pass. Whether it is for the royal family who failed to reconnect with Prince Philip’s funeral, or for close collaborators who were keen to restore the truth.
This is the case of Jason Knauf, former head of communications for Meghan Markle, who found certain statements by the American actress very unfair during his interview with Oprah Winfrey. Meghan Markle had notably declared that Kensington Palace did not want to re-establish the truth about her.
The Duchess of Sussex was referring to a discussion between her and Kate Middleton. Following this discussion, the British press reported that Meghan Markle had made Prince William’s wife cry. “She made me cry, not the other way around (…) Everyone in the institution knew that it was not true.”, Had wanted to correct Meghan Markle during the interview.
g “I did everything to protect Meghan”
While testifying in the context of the lawsuit brought by Meghan Markle to Associated Newspapers, which publishes the Mail on Sunday and Mail Online tabloids, the former collaborator of the Duchess of Sussex took the opportunity to in turn restore his truth. “I have done everything to protect Meghan”, insisted Jason Knauf who has just announced his resignation from the post of general manager of the royal foundation of Kate Middleton and William.
The exiled couple’s former press secretary in the United States also said he spoke “on several occasions” to Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father. Jason Knauf notably cited as an example, a press release dating from 2016 in which he denounced the “racist and sexist media coverage” of the princess. According to court documents, he would have made “considerable efforts for many months” to protect Thomas Markle “in addition to other measures which have been regularly taken to oppose the media hype around the Duchess”.
In a letter to the High Court of Justice, lawyers representing the Crown say Jason Knauf has made “considerable efforts” to protect Meghan’s privacy and reputation.
