On Tuesday, October 26, Bot Sentinel investigated the abuse and harassment against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. 83 Twitter accounts are believed to be responsible for around 70% of the insults the Sussexes have suffered on the internet. Bot Sentinel is “a free platform developed to categorize and track inauthentic accounts and toxic trolls using machine learning and artificial intelligence.”

This survey involved more than 114,000 tweets. It led to the conclusion that a coordinated campaign was waged against the Sussexes. A campaign led by a handful of accounts. Clearly, the accounts would have used a combination of 187,631 followers during this campaign. Moreover, the head of the Bot Sentiel analysis department confides that the level of complexity is such that only an experienced person could do it. He suggests the possibility that people could be paid to do such targeting.

Moreover, the report of this expert reports that 55 primary accounts would have produced the majority of negative content against Meghan. 28 other secondary accounts would have amplified the tweets of the main group.

Sussexes cyber harassed, Twitter investigates information in this report

The report issued by Bot Sentinel also estimates the reach of accounts at over 17 million users. In response to the report, a Twitter spokesperson told BuzzFeed “they are actively investigating the information and accounts mentioned in this report – we will take action against accounts that violate Twitter rules.”

Remember that Twitter’s terms of service prohibit “all activities that harass or intimidate, or are otherwise intended to shame or degrade others”. Let us also recall that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had repeatedly decried the online abuse of which they are victims.
