A true chameleon, Matt Damon has various and varied roles in his filmography, from the gifted thug in Will Hunting to the infallible spy in the Jason Bourne saga, passing by the father ready for anything in Stillwater. This Monday, on Arte, he plays the disturbing Tom Ripley, a penniless young man who befriends the son of a rich American with a frivolous and spendthrift personality. But before you find the five-time Oscar-nominated actor on your screen tonight, let’s zoom in on his life off the movie set. Married to Luciana Bozán Barroso since 2005, Matt Damon is the father of three daughters, Isabella, born in 2006, Gia Zavala, born in 2008 and Stella Zavala, born in 2010. His wife was born in 1976 in Argentina, before moving to settle in the United States. In 2003, while bartending in an establishment in Miami, she met Matt Damon who fell madly in love with her.
Two years after their meeting, the two lovebirds married in December 2005, before welcoming their three children. Luciana Barroso is also the mother of Alexia, born in 1998 from a previous relationship. Years later, Matt Damon and his wife still seem very in love with each other, judging by the complicity they give off on the red carpet. The couple renewed their vows in 2016, in front of some well-known guests from the big screen like Ben Affleck, – the actor’s best friend -, but also Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas or even Catherine Zeta- Jones.
Matt Damon: what is his secret to making his relationship last in Hollywood?
The examples of star couples torn apart by the Hollywood machine are all too numerous and it is rare to come across celebrities faithful to the same partner past the decade. Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso are however part of the few exceptions, with 20 years of love on the clock. In the pages of Télé Loisirs, in 2015, the American actor confided in his secret to make his marriage and his career last. “There isn’t,” he replied before adding, “It’s a permanent job. Having my wife and children by my side allows me to be a happy man. They help me achieve my dreams.”
