Embodying the famous Barbie doll in the movies is not a role to be taken lightly. Indeed, the figurine, modeled by years of diktat, is a reflection of the ideal of beauty that society has long tried to impose on women. Weighted down by the injunction of a perfection judged subjective today, Barbie – and consequently the one who embodies her – has no choice but to comply with the expected criteria. Thus, Margot Robbie, chosen to take on this role, had to slip into the skin of a “perfect” plastic doll. And if the actress already enjoys a physique close to the one to whom she lends her features, she nevertheless had to redouble her efforts to stick to the character. As she revealed in May 2022 to Women’s health magazine, Margot Robbie followed a draconian diet to obtain a Barbie silhouette. To do this, the latter had completely eliminated sugar from her diet, while generously reducing carbohydrates. His typical daily diet? Porridge for breakfast, followed by a smoothie in the morning, before attacking a chicken salad at noon. Margot Robbie ‘mortified’ by photos from Barbie set
In June 2022, the public had been able to have a first glimpse of the film by discovering on the Web photos of the shooting which had leaked. In the latter, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling (who plays Ken) rollerblade along Venice Beach, both dressed in fluorescent spandex costumes. Images that have made the rounds of the Internet, to the great regret of the actress. “I can’t tell you how mortified we were. We look like we’re laughing and having fun, but we’re dying inside (…) I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life”, she confided on September 19 on the set of Jimmy Fallon.
