Hard blow for Madonna. The interpreter of Like a Virgin is in mourning after losing one of his charges this Wednesday, May 5. The BBC has announced the death of singer and model Nick Kamen at the age of 59. The latter became known in 1985 by appearing in a memorable advertisement for the Levi’s brand, which for a long time earned him the status of a real sex symbol. After several experiences in modeling, the star from Essex in the United Kingdom was able to get into music thanks to a competition organized at the time by Madonna. Together, the two artists then co-wrote the track Each Time You Break My Heart, which had become a hit in England. It is to him that we also owe the song I Promised Myself released in 1990.
It was at the end of a long and discreet fight of four years against bone marrow cancer that Nick Kamen died suddenly, after having been in remission. “He was a real fighter. He gave everything and he never gave up,” his sister Denise Kent told MailOnline.
Madonna paid tribute to Nick Kamen
While he had been very close to Madonna for over 30 years, the latter was deeply moved by the death of her friend. She wanted to pay him a vibrant tribute on Instagram. “My heart breaks to know that you are gone. You have always been such a kind and gentle person and you have suffered too much. I hope you are happier where you are Nick Kamen” wrote Lourdes Leon’s mom in the caption of a series of souvenir photos of the deceased, including one where she poses with him in a recording studio. Also touched by this tragic disappearance, the singer Boy George also had a tender thought for Nick Kamen: “R.I.P to the most adorable and handsome man Nick Kamen!” he wrote on Instagram.
