He’s the prime suspect in Maddie McCann’s disappearance. 44-year-old sexual predator Christian Brueckner is suspected by German police of having played a role in the kidnapping (and potentially murder) of little Madeleine McCann, who disappeared on May 3, 2007 in Praia Da Luz, Portugal. Although a German resident for several years, Brueckner was in the Algarve at the time of the girl’s disappearance. And according to German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters, the chances of him being on the outskirts of the resort where the McCanns were spending their vacation are far from slim …
And for good reason, Christian Brueckner is far from unknown to the police. Suspected of at least five sexual assaults, including one on a 10-year-old girl, the German is currently serving a seven-year sentence in a German prison for the rape of a 72-year-old American in 2005, precisely in the Algarve. The victim of this abominable act is now deceased, but his nephew, still marked by the aggression of his aunt, follows very closely the course of Christian Brueckner. In My Search for Madeleine, a new book by journalist Jon Clarke focusing on the McCann case, he spoke for the first time. He mentioned in particular the assault of his aunt, during which Brueckner, hooded, had threatened her with a sword. “It was a horrible attack, which really affected her. But she didn’t want it to ruin her life. She moved on as well as she could. She wanted to move on.”
“I really hope they will charge him and prevent him from coming out one day”
Today, the victim’s nephew is convinced of one thing: if Brueckner is involved in the Maddie McCann affair, it is no accident. “When we found out that this man was also suspected of being related to poor little girl Madeleine McCann, it blew us away. In fact, it made us wonder how many victims he may have claimed. ‘they will charge him and prevent him from coming out one day. For now, Christian Brueckner remains presumed innocent, but the German police claim to have “new details” likely to prove his guilt in the kidnapping of Madeleine McCann.
