It was nearly fifteen years ago… On May 3, 2007, Maddie McCann, a British girl of almost four years old, evaporated from her hotel room in Praia da Luz, Portugal. If the latter has still not been found, Thursday, April 21, 2022, the prosecutor’s office in Portimao, in the Algarve, announced that Christian Bruecknern, a German repeat pedophile, had been indicted in Germany at the request of Portuguese justice. In a press release, the public prosecutor revealed that this suspect was indicted on Wednesday April 20, 2022. Two years earlier, the German authorities already suspected Christian Brueckner.

Currently in prison for the rape of a 72-year-old American in 2005 in southern Portugal, Christian Brueckner is suspected of having killed the little girl. The Brunswick prosecutor’s office announced in 2020 that it was certain that Maddie McCann was indeed dead. “I cannot, at this time, reveal to you the exact information we have that indicates that our suspect killed Madeleine,” said a spokesperson. Since his disappearance, fifteen years earlier, the investigation has been progressing slowly. If the parents of the little girl were omnipresent in the media for a long time, they now prefer to remain in the shadows and only speak out in the event of a major twist in the investigation into Maddie’s disappearance.

Internet users relieved

Following the announcement of the indictment of Christian Bruecknern, many Internet users expressed themselves on Twitter. One shared: “Hard to believe it’s been almost 15 years since Madeleine McCann passed away. Hoping this latest development brings some justice to her parents, family and all who love her. .” Another wrote: “Let’s hope Madeleine Mccann’s parents can find peace now.” A British journalist added: “Christian Brueckner is officially suspected in the Madeleine McCann case. He is not charged, but things are moving forward and time is running out. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the family. .”
