This year, Letizia of Spain and King Felipe VI will do without traditions. Expected in Palma de Mallorca where they spend their summer holidays each year with their daughters Leonor and Sofia, the royal couple decided to emancipate themselves this year from a tradition established for a long time within the family: the traditional photo family in the gardens of the Marivent Palace, reports Holà magazine. And this in particular because of the recent exile of King Juan Carlos, who decided to leave Spain while he is targeted by two investigations which suspect him of corruption.
The annual reception at the Almudaina Palace is also gone, while Letizia of Spain and Felipe VI’s holidays start later than usual. With their two daughters, the King and Queen of Spain are preparing to embark on a much different holiday than usual, since if they will make a hook by Palma de Mallorca with Queen Sofia, who joined earlier in July her summer home, she who refused to follow her husband in exile, they decided this year to also go to the Balearic Islands, for an official tour. And no rest for the royal family, since once their ten-day tour is over, they will return to Madrid.
The Spanish crown once again shaken by a corruption case
A vacation placed under the sign of work for Felipe VI and Letizia of Spain, who are probably making up for the long months of confinement imposed because of the Covid-19 and during which they were unable to ensure their official commitments. And while they gradually resumed their habits, like a romantic outing to promote the reopening of cinemas in Spain, the Spanish crown was touched by the announcement of the exile of King Juan Carlos. A blow for the royal family, since the father of Felipe VI chose exile while he is targeted by cases of corruption, and because of which his son wanted to remove him from the crown. Now, it is in Abu Dhabi, in a luxurious palace in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, that the ex-king is spending happy days.
