It’s an absence that lasts, and that begins to worry. In July 2021, Laurent Weil was forced to cancel his presence at the Cannes Film Festival. A great first for the Canal + cinema gentleman, who has never missed a ceremony, whether on the Croisette, the Césars or even the Oscars. Since the beginning of the 2000s, it is indeed always requisitioned for this kind of event. Just before the opening ceremony of Cannes 2021, the encrypted channel had sent its thoughts to Laurent Weil “who cannot be with us this evening following a health problem”. And Laurie Cholewa to outbid on the air: “We think very strongly of Laurent Weil. All the editorial staff of Canal + joins us to tell him how much we miss him. We would like him to be there this evening but we I’m sure he’ll be back soon.”
Le Parisien then revealed that the 58-year-old journalist was “victim of a serious health problem about two weeks ago”, which led to him being hospitalized. “He is better and is surrounded by his loved ones, but will not be able to participate in the festival this year”, they nevertheless specified. While the award ceremonies follow one another, Laurent Weil has still not reappeared. Last October, Laurie Cholewa wanted to be reassuring: “He is resting and I hope he will come back very, very quickly,” she told Buzz TV Le Figaro. And to clarify: “In any case, I miss him a lot. Laurent Weil is one of the meetings of my TV life. We were scared but it will be fine, he will come back”.
“I miss Laurent a lot”
More than five months after this last confidence and eight months after Laurent Weil’s health glitch, this mother of two always wants to be very careful when she talks about her colleague. “I don’t want to speak on behalf of his family, but he is resting and should be back soon,” she says in the columns of Télé Star to be published this Monday, March 28. And to enthuse: “I am delighted because I miss Laurent a lot”. The mystery is therefore total on the causes of this health problem which has kept Laurent Weil away from the air for so long, as on the date of his return to the camera.
