Twenty-three years have passed since Lady Diana’s disappearance, but Jenni Rivett has remembered nothing of her hours spent with the Princess of Wales. For the first time in forever, Lady Di’s personal sports coach confided in her most famous client. With nostalgia, she spoke in particular of her special relationship with the young woman, who, true to her image, ignored conveniences and royal protocol. “We had a really strong bond. She liked that I didn’t know anything about royal protocol,” Rivett recalls in the columns of the Daily Mail. “I didn’t realize I had to bow to her and only found out after four years. (…) She laughed when I apologized and said ‘That’s why that I love you, Jenni. Please don’t ever bow to me. “
It was in 1991 that Jenni Rivett became Diana’s personal trainer. During their sessions, Diana practiced aerobics, very popular in the nineties, but also cardio, brisk walking and rollerblading. From time to time Lady Di would attend her sports sessions with her sons, Princes William and Harry. Very special moments in the eyes of his ex-trainer, who has touching memories of them. “Her boys were everything to her and often attended our sessions at Kensington Palace. They annoyed her at times,” Rivett recalls with a laugh. “She had a very special bond with William and Harry and loved to embarrass them. Her sense of humor was one of her best qualities.”
“She loved to embarrass Willam and Harry”
If Lady Di’s trainer mainly came back to the good times spent with the princess, she also remembered the bad ones. Also in the columns of the British daily, she evokes the fight led by the princess against bulimia, at the time of her divorce from Prince Charles. “She bravely – to me and to the rest of the world – confessed her bulimia. It was really honorable, since it helped a lot of young women understand the impact of eating disorders,” says Jenni Rivett. “I encouraged him to eat healthy and I sincerely believe that exercise helped him manage his seizures. It really frees him from the anxiety of other negative feelings. I think when his body got back to it. fit, she felt independent and ready to face tough times. “
Thirty years after meeting Lady Diana, Jenni Rivett is still a personal sports coach in the United Kingdom.
