For several weeks, Johnny Depp has been in the center of attention because of his highly publicized trial. On social networks, the actor was able to count on the support of Internet users, his fans who came, but also his friends. According to information published by The Mirror, this Monday, June 13, there is also a very famous friend who quickly contacted him following his victory against Amber Heard. This is Robert Downey Jr who called him in Facetime and told him: “John, thank god it’s over”, explains the media. The accusations that Johnny Depp has been the subject of have had serious consequences on his acting career since he was first fired from Disney and therefore lost his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. He was also dropped from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film series. Longtime friends, Robert Downey Jr wants to do everything to allow him to return to the front of the stage. While working on a new project, Sherlock Holmes 3, the actor asked the production to offer a role to Johnny Depp. If it is unlikely that this will happen, this little boost could however allow the actor to consider returning to the screens.
On June 1, Johnny Depp’s life took a new turn. For several weeks, he had been at the heart of a highly publicized trial and the judges voted unanimously in his favor. Amber Heard was found guilty of defamation with malicious intent against Johnny Depp and damages to the tune of $15 million. While he was not physically present in court since he had professional commitments in London, the actor spoke on his social networks. “After six years, the jury brought me back to life. I am truly touched”, he first wrote in an Instagram post before adding: “Six years ago, my life, the lives of my children and the people around me have changed forever. False, very serious and criminal accusations have been made against me in the media, while no official charges have ever been made against me”. Afterwards, he assured that his goal was to “bring out the truth. Telling the truth was something that I promised my children and the people who continued to believe in me”, he claimed before to clarify that he is now “at peace”. Today, he wants to focus on his career.
Amber Heard: did she also speak following the verdict?
After Johnny Depp, it is Amber Heard who came out of silence. Invited on the set of the Today Show, in an interview which will be broadcast in full this Friday, June 17 on NBC, the actress spoke about the trial. According to her, the “jurors were influenced by Johnny’s excellent acting,” she first said. “Even someone who is sure and certain that I deserve all these vitriolic attacks, and that I am lying, could not look me straight in the eye and tell me that I have been talked about fairly on social media,” said she then clarified. However, she then assured that she “doesn’t care what people think of me or what judgments are made about what happened in the privacy of my own home, during my marriage, behind closed doors,” she concluded.
