While Donald Trump still seeks to challenge his defeat, Democratic America celebrates Joe Biden’s victory after a tumultuous campaign and four days of suspense over the identity of the newly elected. At 77, Joe Biden succeeds Donald Trump in the White House, and becomes (or rather will become, officially next January, the 46th President of the United States). Far from being unknown to the battalion, Joe Biden can boast of a long political career, and the world knows him in particular as the vice-president of Barack Obama, during the latter’s two terms from 2009 to 2017. With the Former President of the United States, Joe Biden has a special relationship, and he was able to count on his friend to support his presidential campaign. In 2017, Barack Obama said of the one who will become his successor: “To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, devotion without vanity and someone who lives his life to the full.” A beautiful tribute to the one whose life marked by tragedies has been widely reported in recent days. Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., whose real name is, comes from a family of humble origins who settled in the year of his 10 years in the State of Delaware in Wilmington. The city would become his stronghold and even when he became a senator in Washington in the 1970s, he remained faithful to his birthplace and regularly made the connection between his hometown and the federal capital in order to find his two sons, Beau and Hunter, remained in Delaware. He will also inherit the nickname “Amtrak Joe”, in connection with the name of the railway line which makes the junction between the two states. Close to his family and to his Delaware, in 1973 he demanded that his swearing-in take place in Wilmington in the hospital room of his son Beau, who was allied with a leg in a cast.
A life marked by dramas
If Joe Biden has the perfect love with Jill, a teacher he married in 1977 and with whom he had a daughter, Ashley, born in 1981, the politician lived the horror a few years before meeting her. Very modest on the subject, he speaks little of the tragic accident which cost the life of his first wife and their daughter. On December 18, 1972, the vehicle of his wife Neilla, who had gone to buy a Christmas tree with their three children (Beau, Hunter and Naomi, their daughter), was struck by a tractor-trailer. The mother and the 13-month-old daughter were killed instantly. As for the two boys, they are seriously injured and immediately taken to hospital. Several years later, in 2015, Joe Biden was once again faced with a tragedy with the death of his son, Beau, struck by brain cancer at the age of 46.
