The disappearance of the singer left a huge void in the hearts of fans… Tuesday, December 5, 2017, Johnny Hallyday died at the age of 74. If he died at his home in Marnes-la-Coquette and his funeral took place in the Church of the Madeleine, in Paris, he was buried on the island of Saint-Barthélémy. Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in an interview with the Parisian, his widow, Laetica Hallyday confided about his funeral: “I wanted to die, I had a hard time dying. I wanted to go with him. If I don’t didn’t have my daughters to hang on to… Johnny, it’s 23 years of my life, and not a long calm river… But I made him the promise to continue to support him and I do with his orphaned fans. Very few artists have aroused so much love after their departure. He is immortal. We will no longer be here that he will always be there, him.”

Referring to the vigils in homage to her husband, the mother of Jade and Joy clarified: “I am very religious, I am part of the parish of Lorient, I go to mass every Sunday here, and I immediately felt the need to go to his grave after the funeral. I was able to stay on the island for a month and I went there every day, morning and evening. We started lighting candles and it became a spiritual ritual, a communion.” However, many fans did not understand that Johnny Hallyday is not buried in Paris. “We were judged a lot on that, but it was his choice”, assured Laeticia Hallyday, before adding: “It’s complicated for the fans to move, but when they make this pilgrimage, they understand what choice and his love for this island. Johnny was very attached to its inhabitants and their history. They were grateful to him. He was truly the child of the island.” With emotion, the young woman said: “Here, nobody bothered him. Johnny dreamed of ending his life here, we wanted to settle there all year round when Jade and Joy were at university…”

With emotion, she wrote: “5 years already since you left, 5 years which seem like a century to me, an eternity… We still miss you and forever. All December 5 are no longer ordinary days, but in any case, the days without you are rare… Rare, because in truth we live together every moment and it is certainly you who helps me to regain a taste for life, to find meaning in my existence, because I know you wouldn’t want us to be unhappy.” After having estimated that it was thanks to him that she managed to rebuild herself, Laeticia Hallyday added: “Tonight at the Lorient cemetery with your fans who are there for you, we will look at the sky, there will be a star that will shine more than the others… Because you are never far away, you watch, you protect us.
