Kate Mara has never forgotten Heath Ledger. In 2005, she co-stars with the Australian star in the feature film The Secret of Brokeback Mountain, by Ang Lee. Heath Ledger plays Ennis and Kate Mara plays Alma, his daughter. Asked about Bravo TV on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Kate Mara recounted how the collaboration went in front of the cameras.
“I was 19 and he was just older than me, she recalled. It was pretty crazy. But he was so sweet. The experience was so amazing. He was only a few years older than me. me, but he really took me under his wing. I hadn’t worked a lot back then. So yeah, that was really unique. ”
A role for which Kate Mara was originally dubious due to her age difference with Heath Ledger. Indeed, she was playing a 14-year-old. “I was like, ‘It’s never going to work, we’re only about five years apart. But Heath was amazing and it worked.”
A publicized disappearance
On January 22, 2008, Heath Ledger – who would have been 40 years old on April 4 – died of an overdose. His death had moved the whole world as well as the world of cinema. He then left behind a daughter, Matilda, now 15, whom he had with actress Michelle Williams. The two stars had a three-year love affair, between 2004 and 2007: “I have never given up on love … I always said to Matilda: ‘Your father loved me before someone thinks I’m talented, or pretty, or I have nice clothes, ‘”she said.
