In a joint effort, authorities, the local community, volunteers and even a team of FBI divers helped search for the body of 5-year-old Lucian Mungia. The 5-year-old boy has been missing for three months while he was with his family in a national park in Washington State. The disappearance was reported within 15 minutes, and police and the local community joined in the search, reports The Mirror.

On the day of the incident, Lucian Mungia was last seen walking through a parking lot towards the Yakima River. The young boy’s skeletal remains were discovered by a dog walker on December 29, 2022, after nearly four months of being missing. Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice said “the boy was accidentally drowned and there was no evidence of foul play.” Lucian Mungia’s body was found in a fast-flowing river, which explains why the search took so long without yielding results.

Yakima Deputy Fire Chief D.J. Goldsmith told the Yakima Herald-Republic that the nature of the river predicted a long search. “Even if we give 100% effort to locate something, including using infrared drones, there are so many tributaries and multiple places it can latch on,” he said. before continuing, “we did everything we could, but it’s a tragedy that we couldn’t do anything else”.
