Harry and Meghan are said to be in shock after a mad chase with paparazzi in New York.
Several testimonies discredit their version of the facts.
The driver of their taxi refuses to accredit the use of the term “race-pursuit”.
New York police found no injuries or collisions.
The photography agency implicated by Harry and Meghan denies having caused any harm to the Sussexes.
“Last night the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Doria Ragland were involved in a car chase with very aggressive paparazzi which could have turned out to be catastrophic. This dogged chase, which lasted more than 2 hours, resulted in multiple near-misses, involving other drivers on the road, as well as pedestrians and two NYPD (New York City Police) officers,” Harry and Meghan shared via their communications team after having been chased in the arteries of the Big Apple by photographers who were a little too “sticky” on Tuesday evening, May 16. The taxi in which the couple and Doria Ragland, the mother of Meghan Markle, had engulfed would have been chased out of the Ziegfield Ballroom where the ceremony of the Women of Vision Awards was organized.
Surprised by the extent of this “paparazzigate”, the driver of the vehicle gave his version of the facts in the American press. The Sussexes’ security guard reportedly first asked him to return to the taxi rank for fear the couple could be located. “I don’t think I would call it a chase. It wasn’t like a chase in a movie. They were quiet and seemed a little scared, but it’s New York, it’s okay,” commented the driver. A testimony corroborated by that of Julian Phillips, deputy commissioner in charge of information for the New York police (NYPD), in a message relayed by journalist Dan Wootton: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have arrived at their destination and no collisions, summonses, injuries or arrests were reported.” Would Harry and Meghan be “drama queen”, as the latter claims?

Accused of having provoked the “relentless pursuit”, the photography agency in question scratches the version of the Sussexes. The photos would thus reveal a “smiling” Meghan in the vehicle pursued by three of her employees. “According to them, they were covering the couple’s trip to New York, which includes the possibility of a dinner after the ceremony. They did not intend to cause stress or injury, specifies the press release from the agency. posted in reaction to the couple’s: “We understand that their safety has a job to do and we respect that. However, we would like to report that according to our photographers present at the scene, there was no collision or accident. The couple was never put in danger.” The case would have gone up to the ears of the mayor of New York who, learning of the involvement of two police officers, denied the duration of the chase but insisted on the importance of safety while driving and on public roads.
