Eddie Van Halen is gone. The American guitarist died on Tuesday October 6 following a long battle with throat cancer, which lasted more than ten years, reports TMZ. He was 65 years old. His son Wolfgang Van Halen broke the news on Twitter in a brief statement. “I can’t believe what I’m writing, but my dad, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, lost his long, ardent battle with cancer this morning. He’s the best dad in the world. Every time I have it. shared with him on and off stage were precious. My heart breaks and I think I will never recover from this loss. “
Wolfgang Van Halen again writes: “My heart is broken and I think I will never really get over this loss. I love you so much, dad.” The guitarist’s son shares a photo of his father laughing out loud, presumably happy. Messages of condolence have multiplied on the web. Originally from the Netherlands, Eddie Van Halen had made a name for himself with the hits Jump and Panama. The Van Halen group was founded by Eddie and his older brother Alex, on drums with singer David Lee Roth. Eddie Van Halen had undergone many chemotherapy drugs, to no avail. He had been admitted to the hospital numerous times in recent months. According to TMZ, he was traveling between the United States and Germany as part of his radiation therapy.
