Years go by but their love remains intact. This December 21, 2020 is a special day for Elton John and David Furnish as it is their civil union anniversary. On his Instagram account, the husband of the British singer revealed that he found it difficult to believe that it has already been 15 years since they officially sealed their relationship, in Great Britain. “What a wonderful day it was,” writes the 58-year-old Canadian filmmaker fondly, captioning old photos of him and his lover.
“6 years ago, we renewed our vows and got married legally in front of our two beautiful sons”, continues David Furnish with pride, referring to Zachary Jackson Levon, who will soon be celebrating his tenth birthday and Elijah Daniel Joseph, who is seven years old, both born to the same surrogate mother and whose godmother is Lady Gaga. “This type of civil progress was unimaginable when I was young,” he says happily, welcoming the passage of political advances concerning rights for homosexuals. However, Elton John’s husband takes the opportunity to recall that “despite all these extraordinary positive changes”, it “is still illegal to be LGBT + in 70 countries” and that it is possible for non-heterosexual people to be “sentenced to death in 12 of these countries”.
An association that fights for the LGBT + community
“Through our work with the Elton John AIDS Foundation [created in 1993, editor’s note], Elton and I are committed to continuing the fight for the equality of our LGBT + brothers and sisters around the world,” concludes David Furnish, who is thus serves the notoriety of his couple to change mentalities and make things happen.
