With nearly 70 years of reign to his counter, Her Majesty Elizabeth II has been accustomed to diplomatic meetings. Each week, the monarch meets with the British Prime Minister, as per protocol. But these talks also extend to the policies of other countries. In June 2019, the sovereign thus met Donald Trump. Two years later, and as reported by the British tabloid The Mirror this Thursday, May 27, it is the turn of his successor, Joe Biden, to meet the Queen of England.
The President of the United States has already noted the meeting in his agenda impatiently according to our colleagues from across the Channel, since he had wanted to meet His Highness for a long time. He even expressed his condolences to her following the death of Prince Philip. The politician will travel to the United Kingdom for the G7 summit which will take place in Cornwall on 11 June 2021. After meeting with Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Jill Biden’s husband will fly to Brussels , in Belgium, to participate in another summit. Joe Biden’s plans do not end there: on June 16, 2021, he will join Switzerland to meet Vladimir Putin. An interview that could be promising, despite the head of state’s aversion to his Russian counterpart, since he is supposed to initiate a repair of the relationship between Washington and Moscow.
Joe Biden already has a connection to the royal family
A first for Her Majesty Elizabeth II and Joe Biden, although the 95-year-old monarch was able to meet Michelle and Barack Obama in 2016. Vice-president at the time of the facts, the father could not join them. But there is one member of the royal family of England whom he knows well and who will certainly be delighted to see him discussing with the Queen. This is Prince Harry. Indeed, the politician and the Duke of Sussex are good friends and have been able to meet at several big events such as the Invictus Games in Toronto in 2017.
