His first birthday, in seven decades, without the love of his life by his side. If this day of April 21 would ordinarily have been a day of celebration for Queen Elizabeth II, this year the situation is quite different. The monarch is in full mourning for her 95th birthday, following the death of her husband Prince Philip on April 9. The official Instagram account of the British royal family has decided to honor the Queen on this special day by posting a most symbolic photo, which was certainly not chosen at random. Indeed, on this one, it is only that appears his Majesty. A strong and heartbreaking image, while Elizabeth II will no longer be able to count on her late husband to stand three steps behind her.
As the caption of this photo indicates, it is at Windsor Castle, where she resides, that the Queen will be spending her birthday. Several of his relatives would have agreed to a rotation in order to pay him a little visit. This is particularly the case of his eldest son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles, but also of Sophie of Wessex and her children who will visit the queen in the coming days. Kate Middleton and Prince William will organize a video call for their part to allow Elizabeth II to take advantage of her great-grandchildren. For his part, Prince Harry will not visit his grandmother for his birthday since he has already returned to California to find his wife Meghan Markle and his son Archie.
Puppies to comfort Elizabeth II
While she needs comfort more than ever, Elizabeth II intends to take advantage of the gift she received from her son, Prince Andrew. Last February, to boost her mother’s morale following Prince Philip’s hospitalization, the Duke of York gave her two puppies. And not just any, since they were corgis, a breed that the queen is particularly fond of. Two furballs named Fergus and Muick, to keep Elizabeth II company, who also takes great pleasure in walking them.
