Her disappearance had the effect of a bomb in July 2020. After being reported missing for several days, the body of Naya Rivera was finally discovered in Lake Piru where she had left for a boat trip with her son Josey . According to the elements of the investigation, the former star of Glee would have drowned “in a few minutes”. Only, for the former companion of the actress and her son, these explanations do not seem sufficient. So, on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, Naya Rivera’s 5-year-old son, through his father, filed a complaint against Ventura County, the United Water Conservation District and Parks and Recreation Management, California, in front of the superior court of Ventura, according to information relayed by E!
The young boy allegedly cited two causes of action to be taken at the trial: wrongful death and negligent infliction of emotional distress. For the first action, still according to E !, Josey claimed to have “suffered substantial economic and non-economic damage as a result of Naya’s death”. As to the second cause of action in the lawsuit, the documents alleged that Josey suffered from “serious emotional turmoil” as a result of his presence at the scene of the tragedy.
A large amount of money is at stake
Naya Rivera’s son and ex-boyfriend Ryan Dorsey also applied to “recover the loss or damage suffered by Naya before death, including punitive exemplary penalties or damages to which Naya would have been entitled had she lived “. At the request of the plaintiffs, the trial could take place before a jury. While they claim in addition to “actual, compensatory, consequential and punitive damages in an amount to be determined at trial”, the sum at stake could be very significant.
