It is a death that remains enigmatic. Tuesday, September 1, DJ Erick Morillo died at the age of 49. His body was found lifeless at his home in Miami Beach (United States), shortly before 11 a.m. Investigators are hard at work to try to discover the circumstances of the death of the one to whom we owe the planetary hit I Like To Move It. For the moment, the cause of his death has not yet been identified and investigators are counting on the autopsy of the body to learn more about the reasons for this tragedy.
Currently, investigators have not found any trace suggesting that it is a homicide. Miami Beach Police officials said officers found the famous DJ’s body after responding to a 911 call, and then proceeded to his home on La Gorce Drive. During his career, Erick Morillo won three times the award for best house DJ at the DJ Awards and three times the award for best international DJ. He has also produced music under several names including Ministers De la Funk, The Dronez, RAW, Smooth Touch, RBM, Deep Soul, etc.
Last month, the musician was arrested and charged with sexual assault on a woman. The facts dated back to December and allegedly occurred at his home. His accuser assures us that he would have offered to come to his place after a private party. She would then have refused his advances but claims to have been drugged and to have gone to a room to sleep. She then explained “waking up naked on the bed, with Mr. Morillo standing on the side of the bed, also naked”, according to facts noted in a police report. At first, Erick Morillo denied the facts but then surrendered to the authorities after the positive results of a DNA test.
