The star of the reality TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race, has died of pneumonia. “I am heartbroken to learn of the disappearance of Chi Chi DeVayne. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to know his kindness and his magnificent soul”, reacted RuPaul, presenter of the program which bears his name. A few weeks ago, Chi Chi DeVayne was diagnosed with scleroderma, an autoimmune disease affecting the tissue between cells, by a buildup of collagen. Then, since July 2020, his state of health had deteriorated further. After being hospitalized for suspected kidney failure, he was hospitalized again on August 16 for pneumonia. Complications due to “too long a period without going to see a doctor,” said Chi Chi DeVayne, who was far from suspecting that he was sending his last message to his many fans.
Shortly after the news of her death was announced, her family released an official statement on the star’s Instagram page. “On behalf of the Davenport / Wyandon family, it is with great sadness that my family and I announce the passing of my beloved son Zavion Michael Davenport, the famous Chi Chi DeVayne.
