Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were eager to expand their family. The Portuguese footballer and the Argentinian-Spanish model were due to welcome twins. But unfortunately not everything went as planned. In the evening of this Monday, April 18, the couple published a press release on Instagram, to announce that one of the babies had died, visibly during childbirth. “It is with the greatest sadness that we have to announce that our baby has died. It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel. Only the birth of our daughter gives us the strength to live this moment with hope and happiness”, began Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez.
Despite their immense grief, the 37-year-old athlete and his 28-year-old partner wished to thank “the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support”. “We are all devastated by this loss and we kindly ask for our privacy at this difficult time,” they added, before concluding with a message for their missing baby boy: “Our little angel. We will always love you.”
“Our little angel is already on his knees”
After this tragic announcement, Katia Aveiro (also called Ronalda), the big sister of Cristiano Ronaldo, posted a message on her Instagram account to support the couple. “I love you and my heart is right there… May God watch over us and strengthen your path more and more… Our little angel is already on her father’s lap and our little girl who is strong and full of health will teach us that only love counts…”, wrote the 44-year-old singer, referring to her late nephew and her niece who survived, and who will surely fill her parents with happiness despite the mourning.
At the end of October 2021, Georgina Rodriguez announced that she was pregnant with twins.
