But what really happened between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton? After the Sussexes’ wedding in May 2018, several British media reported that the two duchesses had a violent dress clash. The mother of Archie and Lilibet would have even made her sister-in-law cry, even if it is rather “the opposite which happened” according to her. In his memoir, Prince Harry reflects on this tense moment between the two women and says that four days before her wedding, Kate Middleton texted Meghan about the dresses of the bridesmaids, including Princess Charlotte. “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home,” the Princess of Wales reportedly wrote.
“Good, and I told you the tailor had been here since 8 a.m. Here. Can you take Charlotte to have her altered, like other mums do?” Meghan Markle reportedly replied. There followed a tense dialogue between the two women and a fit of tears from the Duchess of Sussex. In the columns of the Daily Mail, the tailor in question came out of silence. “If something happened in private, it didn’t happen in front of me. But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times, he explained. Harry and Meghan have been faced with a problem like anyone at a wedding, with last minute hiccups. I can understand if anyone was upset if the dresses didn’t fit – it’s nerve wracking.”
Harry and Meghan’s wedding: who were the bridesmaids?
“You wouldn’t want kids walking out on a big stage in a badly fitting dress, which they did,” Ajay Mirpuri added. “The six bridesmaids’ dresses needed to be readjusted, and we did.” For him and his team, this little hiccup was particularly stressful. “We had to work tooth and nail for four days, four of us working until 4 a.m. three nights in a row, to get them in shape, remembered Meghan Markle’s designer. We left the Windsor Castle at 10 p.m. the day before the wedding. Did anyone complain that day about the bridesmaids’ dresses and their appearance? The answer is no.” As well as Princess Charlotte, the couple’s other five young bridesmaids were the Duke’s goddaughters, Meghan’s and Jessica Mulroney’s daughter.
