It is one of the few cultural events that decided to brave the pandemic. The Venice Film Festival has maintained its 77th edition, which takes place from September 2 to 12, under the Mediterranean sun. If last year in 2019, dozens and dozens of celebrities made the trip and posed on the Lido, this year 2020, few Hollywood stars are at the rendezvous. For this new edition, 18 films – including 8 directed by women – are in the running to succeed Todd Phillips’ Joker, and hope to win the coveted Lion d’Or, on the closing day of the festival.
It must be said that this year, the Venice Film Festival puts women in the spotlight. First of all because British actress Tilda Swinton and Hong Kong filmmaker Ann Hui will both receive Lion d’Or awards for their entire career. In addition, the jury for the official competition is chaired by a woman, the Australian-American actress Cate Blanchett, who is no longer presented. A few days before the launch of the festivities, Cate Blanchett gave an interview to the Women’s Wear Daily, where she explained that she would not wear new clothes, throughout the ten days of the film festival. By choosing to recycle her outfits, the 51-year-old actress wishes to show her commitment to the fight for the environmental cause, as reported by our colleagues from Madame Figaro.
A dress by Alexander McQueen
This Tuesday, September 8, Cate Blanchett went to the presentation of the film Love After Love, by filmmaker Ann Hui. On the Venetian red carpet, the Oscar-winning actress posed under the flashes of photographers, a smile on her face. And she held her bet. The president of the festival had bet on recycled clothes so … but mixed in order to compose an outfit that is at least original! She appeared wearing a long black blazer jacket, which she wore over a cream-colored, asymmetrical frilly and embellished dress by Alexander McQueen. The actress had accessorized her outfit with a pair of classic black pumps, which counterbalanced her unconventional outfit. On the beauty side, Cate Blanchett had styled her hair with a side parting and slightly wavy, and had bet on a light makeup so that the eyes remain focused on her evening outfit. Bet largely successful.
