And three! Royal family more discreet than the Windsors in Great Britain, the kingdom of Sweden never misses an opportunity to announce the good news which punctuates royal life. And it was with joy that it was announced on the family Instagram account that Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia are awaiting a happy event. “We are happy and impatient to welcome our third child, a brother (or sister) to Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel. A new little member of our family”, we can read in the caption of a glamorous snapshot of the couple.
After getting married in 2015 in Stockholm, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia welcomed their first child in 2016, Alexander, then little Gabriel the following year. It is now for the beginning of spring 2021 that the couple should welcome their third child, who will occupy the seventh place in the order of succession to the Swedish throne. He will thus be behind his aunt, Princess Victoria, his two first cousins, Princess Estelle and her brother, Oscar, then his father and two older brothers.
Children who no longer have royal titles
Like his two brothers, this future royal baby should not bear a royal title, but nevertheless remains in the list of contenders for the Swedish throne. Indeed in October 2019, Prince Carl Philip and his little sister Princess Madeleine of Sweden announced that their children would no longer carry royal titles. In total, five children are affected by this decision: Leonore, Nicolas and Adrienne, the three children of Princess Madeleine, and Alexander and Gabriel, those of Prince Philip. An absence of a title which does not exclude them from the royal family, but which does not confer on them any obligation vis-à-vis the crown.
