It’s the worst pain a dad can have. Golfer Camilo Villegas has lost his 22-month-old daughter, Mia, who struggled since birth with a brain and spine tumor. The Colombian, four-time PGA Tour winner, revealed last month that together with his wife Maria, they took their daughter to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami for tests in March, as they realized that ‘she was not well. This is where the disease was diagnosed. Little Mia underwent surgery after the discovery of her two tumors. Doctors then informed Camilo Villegas and his wife that their young daughter would need further treatment due to persistent problems. A few weeks ago at a press conference, the golfer broke down in tears: “After the operation, when it was time to remove the stitches, they learned that the growth had become quite aggressive.”
“We were told we had to start treatment right away, so they kept us there. Physically, however, she was not ready to receive the kind of chemotherapy that was hoped for,” the dad said at the time. Subsequently, Mia began alternate cycles of chemotherapy. But the 22-month-old girl couldn’t beat the disease. This Sunday, July 26, she died in the Miami hospital. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said the day after his death: “The PGA Tour is deeply saddened to have lost a member of our family, Mia Villegas. We mourn with Camilo and Maria and our thoughts and prayers go out. to the Villegas family. ” The golfer wanted to be optimistic about his daughter’s chances of making it. “Hopefully it’s just a bump in the road for her and for us,” he confided on the sidelines of the Korn Ferry Challenge last June.
Camilo Villegas had a “bad feeling”
Camilo Villegas then burst into tears when describing his daughter’s symptoms. “She’s always been a little monkey in the gym and I noticed she’s not the little monkey she always was, described the golfer. I don’t know why, I just have a bad feeling. . Mia cried more frequently. ” He then explained that “bad feelings” had crossed him. “I had heard bad stories here and there. So, I spoke to my wife about these concerns, continued the sportsman. She told me not to think like that.” Sadly, the surgery Mia had in March did not kill the tumors. Since the announcement of the death of his only daughter, Camilo Villegas has received thousands of messages of condolence. But nothing can ease the pain of losing your child.
