Sondra Wiener, the sister of the famous scammer Bernard Mardoff, was found dead with her husband this Thursday, February 17. The couple’s bodies were discovered by police in the gated community of Valencia Lakes in Boynton Beach, Florida. Sondra Wiener was 87 years old, while her husband was 90.

Despite their relationship, they had been victims of the famous fraudster. At the time, they even lost over $3 million. A huge loss of money that had prompted the couple to separate from their home in Palm Beach, Florida.

Regarding the cause of their death, the police are advancing a track. “Detectives from the Violent Crimes Division have arrived at the scene to investigate further. It appears to be a murder-suicide (i.e. one killed the ‘other before committing suicide)” the statement read. But the authorities have not yet revealed which of the two spouses allegedly committed the act. The sheriff’s office said the cause of death will soon be determined by a medical examiner. In addition, the couple’s family requested that the Marsy Law for Marvin Wiener be applied, which allows victims to assert the right to maintain the confidentiality of personal information. Sondra Wiener’s death comes almost a year after that of her brother, who died in prison aged 82 after being sentenced to serve the maximum sentence of 150 years.
