It was less than two days after the disappearance of Athena Strand, that her body was found a few kilometers from her house, in the town of Paradise, as indicated by CBS. According to the Sheriff, the little girl died an hour after her disappearance, which occurred after the passage of a delivery driver at her home.
The delivery man came to drop off a Christmas present for Athena
A disastrous fate for this little girl who opened the door to a delivery driver who came that day to drop off a package which was in fact intended for her. This is what his mother explained at a press conference. Maitlyn Gandy spoke outside the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur, northeast of Paradise. It was there that she said the package dropped off that day was a Christmas present for the “amazing little girl” she wanted everyone to know. That gift was a box of Barbies, with “You can be anything you want” written on it, which Maitlyn had placed next to her during the press conference. “I was robbed of watching her grow,” she said, explaining that the little girl was due to return to Oklahoma after Christmas vacation. “Now, instead, Athena will be cremated and she will come home to an urn because I’m not even, I’m not ready to let my baby go.”
After the discovery of her body, a man named Tanner Lynn Horner was arrested and charged with murder. The 31-year-old man told Texas authorities he strangled the little girl after accidentally hitting her with his van while she was making a delivery to her home, according to a warrant obtained on Thursday . According to the delivery man, the little girl was not seriously injured after he kicked her while backing up, but in a panic he put her in his van where she spoke to him and told him her name. Not wanting her to tell her father what had happened, he first tried to break the girl’s neck before strangling her. Once arrested, he led investigators to where he had left Athena’s body.
