Prince Harry participated in a seminar by videoconference this Monday, May 16
He talked about the dangers of the internet and social networks for children
The Duke of Sussex is very worried about Archie and Lilibet and their future on the internet
The dangers of the internet can affect everyone, including members of the royal family and Prince Harry is well aware of this. This Monday, May 16, he participated via screen in a seminar organized by the 5Rights Foundation entitled “Global child online safety toolkit”, which corresponds to a set of tools to help guarantee the safety of children on the internet. From his home in California, the Duke of Sussex called for more protection for minors on the internet, exploited by big companies to attract visibility and therefore profits. Lilibet and Archie’s father explained that, “As parents, my wife and I are worried about the next generation who are about to grow up in a world where they are viewed as guinea pigs by corporations that want to make money, and where hatred and violence have been so normalized”.
Married to Meghan Markle, who herself suffered violent attacks on the internet – and who still does today – Prince Harry knows only too well that the online world is ruthless and can drive people to commit the irreparable. “For the moment my two little ones are still innocent. And sometimes I have the feeling that I would be able to preserve them from all this violence, but I know very well that it is not possible”. Like all the people participating in the seminar, Prince Harry therefore calls for a more secure use of the internet and especially of social networks, which is at the heart of a deep concern he feels for his children. “They are too young to know the internet but I hope they never have to experience it as it exists today. No child should have to go through that.”
Prince Harry wants to protect Archie and Lilibet from the dangers of social networks
While pointing out all the flaws of social networks, Prince Harry is however aware that this is not an error on the part of the large media groups that hold them but that everything is precisely calculated to capture attention. of the youngest and make the most of it. “The system isn’t broken, it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to. Holding our attention, causing anger or anxiety, or making us completely indifferent to whatever is going on around us “. According to the Duke of Sussex, it is therefore essential to have new laws to protect the most vulnerable, but also that public opinion puts pressure so that the biggest companies are forced to be more transparent. “We are at a crucial moment, and we will all need to be mobilized to ensure that children grow up in a digital age that allows them to truly flourish”.
