It’s a case with many gray areas. In the village of L’Escarène, in the Alpes-Maritimes, a man suspected of having committed a burglary was chased by many people. The facts date back to October 12. According to our colleagues from Nice-Matin, the 39-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries. The man is accused by the inhabitants of the village of having robbed an old lady within the village itself. At 8:35 p.m., the gendarmes were notified. “We learn that the alleged suspect was arrested, neutralized by residents,” they assure Nice-Matin.

The chase in the village will therefore be deadly. “Some had dogs, they threw at least one of them at the victim who was hit in the kindergarten and then again somewhere else,” another person said. The victim was allegedly stripped naked and beaten to death by several people. It was his girlfriend who discovered the victim’s body. The firefighters decided to rush him to hospital where he died of his injuries.

The omerta of the village

Since then, in the village, the inhabitants have been silent. No one wants to talk about this case anymore. However, the police will have to investigate. A judicial investigation has been opened for “willful violence resulting in death without intention to give it” by the Nice prosecutor’s office. So far, no indictment has been filed. There are still many unanswered questions. Investigators are going to have to use their greatest ploys to get witnesses and respondents to talk. For the moment, the supposed burglary carried out by the victim of this beating, has not been confirmed by the police.
