Monday, December 7, relatives of Natalie Desselle Reid announced on her Instagram account the disappearance of the actress at the age of 53 as a result of colon cancer. Known for having played in many TV movies, some have also seen her alongside Halle Berry in the film BAPS released in 1997, or in How to Be a Player where she plays the role of Jenny Jackson.
“She was a shining light in this world. A queen. An extraordinary mother and wife,” said those close to her, while Natalie Desselle Reid leaves behind her husband Leonard and their three children. “Her diverse career has touched so many people and she will be loved forever. Of course we are in mourning and dealing with this profound loss and we thank you in advance for respecting our privacy at this extremely difficult time,” reads the message unveiled on his Instagram account.
A disease kept private
According to information from TMZ, it was earlier this year that Natalie Desselle Reid learned she had colon cancer. An illness that she had kept private, and which took it away in barely a year, she who died in a palliative care unit surrounded by her family reports the American media. The actress was best known for her role as Mickey in BAPS, the famous and hilarious sidekick of Halle Berry in that production released in 1997. She also starred on the sitcom Eve for three years, playing Janie Egins – in addition to having starred in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family as Tammy.
